Family Friendly Volunteer Opportunities to Give Back to the Community

With the holidays coming up, a great way to celebrate is by giving back to others that are not as lucky as you and your family. There are several charities in the Tarzana and Santa Clarita area and you can have your whole family be involved. Giving back is a great way to teach children that not everyone has it as easy as you do. There are several community service projects that take place every year such as Big Sunday, Toys for Tots, Hope of the Valley, Tree People, and the Salvation Army. This guide will help you get in the know on how to volunteer for each organization.

Big Sunday

One of the charity organizations, Big Sunday, is hosting a Thanksgiving event for all ages to participate in. You get to participate in stuffing food in bags and giving them to the people who are hungry in the community. With the pandemic, it's understandable that not everyone feels comfortable participating, which is why they offer other ways. You can donate food, give money to purchase bags, or you can be an event sponsor.

Toys for Tots

The Toys for Tots program is very popular, and they are accepting donations from October through December. It's a great way to give the less fortunate children a great Christmas. You can donate as much money as you would like. If you have older children, they may want to pitch in too.

Hope of the Valley

Hope of the Valley is a very special organization to help the homeless in our community. They provide tiny houses and you can be a part of the operation of these homes by donating money to the organization. You could also volunteer at any one of their shelters or create your own drive to help them out. All you have to do to get started is to fill out an application. They accept all volunteers, but children under the age of 13 are required to be with their parents.

Tree People

Tree people serves as a great community volunteer opportunity for those seeking to give back to nature. They have a calendar where all the events are posted but you can also email them to see if they are accepting volunteers that are not on the calendar. It's a great way to help the community.

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army charity organization is also a very popular one during the holidays. There are lots of Salvation Army setups near the Tarzana community where you can drop off clothes, food, books, toys, or anything else and put them in their donation box. There are also thrift stores where you can donate any old things you have lying around your house. You could also purchase new things to donate to. Pennies for Patients, the American Red Cross, and Fred Jordan Missions are other great charities where you can give donations and volunteer. The holidays are a season for giving so give back to your community by helping others that are less fortunate than you with these amazing charity organizations.
